Leading Hotels of the World was founded in 1928 by Theodore Kittredge Williamson Jr., Harry B. Kessler, and Lawrence Lee Jr., sons of American businessmen who had developed significant hotel holdings in Europe during the first two decades of the century. The founders intended to provide travelers with a guide to “Leading Hotels of Europe,” as there were no comprehensive guides available then.
